As the weather gets cooler and school starts, it is never too early to start thinking about what to do over Winter Break! Come join Gahanna’s summer camp staff as we bring camp indoors for the winter and enjoy the break from school. Our energetic staff have exciting games, activities and field trips planned to keep you moving and engaged over winter break.

American Sign Language - Workshop - 32321

American Sign Language
The Columbus Speech & Hearing Center is excited to partner with the Department of Parks & Recreation, as well as Gahanna Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library to offer two 2-hour American Sign Language (ASL) Workshops. Learn ASL basics in this brief workshop with instructors from the Center. This workshop will be a great way to get an introduction to ASL and Deaf culture, as well as prepare individuals for a full 8 week class planned for Jan-Feb 2019!

Kidz Home Alone
Are you ready to educate your child about the responsibilities of being home alone? Our goal is to assist every student in feeling more comfortable while home alone. This interactive course teaches topics such as First Aid, Self-Heimlich maneuver, reasons to call 911, fire escape plans, microwave safety and how to problem solve out of the ordinary situations. A parent guide is included in the student manual that provides helpful discussion points between parent and child. Parents do not need to attend the class.

This class is for beginners and intermediate level dancers, ages 6-8. Experience is not necessary! Instructors will cover the fundamentals of ballet and tap through floor and cross floor exercises, as well as combinations. NOTE: Leotard, tights, ballet AND tap shoes required. Please have hair pulled up and off of dancer’s face.

Gahanna Herb Group - 52254

The Gahanna Herb Group is a 9-month program that focuses on herbs and their uses. Each month participants study one herb in depth, as well as learn hands-on culinary, cultivation or craft techniques. Herbs are studied from botanical, historical, folkloric, and wellness points of view. More advanced hands-on techniques and a field trip will be utilized to deepen our herbal experience even further. The group also receives informative guides that extend the learning beyond the classroom. Instructors include Herb Center staff as well as guest experts from Central Ohio. This cooperative learning environment is for individuals who would like to dedicate time to earn a deeper understanding of all things herbal.

Benefits include: monthly class, fresh or dried herb for home practice, newsletter, 10% off all gift shop items.

Herb Group Foundations - 52258

Over 5 months, participants will study one herb in depth, and learn a core hands-on technique. Herbs studied will be drawn from a foundational list of traditional edible herbs that have extended wellness benefits. This year’s list includes: elder, fennel, ginger, vanilla, and thyme. We will study these herbs from botanical and historic viewpoints, and work with them to gain valuable hands-on and sensory familiarity. The group will also receive informative guides, references to follow beyond the classroom, and classes taught by herb center staff. This series is intended for beginning students who would like to deepen their knowledge, understanding and usage of herbs.

Aromatherapy Foundations Class - 52292

Come to a relaxed, informative class about essential oils. Learn safety, dilutions, applications, and recipes. We will discuss how to research any essential oil you may have or buy, and how to use them in a safe, effective manner. Lavender and Sweet Orange essential oils will be studied and you will use these oils to make your own blend to take home. Manual and blending materials will be supplied. This class is required if you want to continue your essential oil studies with Deborah.
